The story behind Mayola

I’ve always loved beauty, creativity and connecting with people. But my interest in business started long before Mayola Beauty.

When I was around eight years old, I started selling bracelets in primary school. At 15, I started my own hair business. I didn’t know it then, but those early experiences were teaching me something important: I loved creating things, sharing them with people and turning an idea into a business.

Growing up, I also spent time in my dad’s Real Estate office. I’d watch him work, practise answering the phones and pretend I was him. At the time, it was just something fun to do. Looking back, it was my first introduction to sales, confidence and the world of business.

More than a beauty brand

Mayola Beauty is my opportunity to bring together the things I love: beauty, hair, media, marketing and caring for others.

I wanted to create a brand that celebrates the individuality of Black and Afro hair, while giving people the freedom to express themselves in their own way.

We’re starting with hair extensions, styling products and everyday essentials, with a bigger vision to grow Mayola into a beauty brand that customers can be part of.

Our philosophy is simple:

Building something of my own

Mayola is also a challenge: to take the things I’ve learned so far and turn them into a real, growing business.

I’m learning about choosing products, finding suppliers, building a brand, creating content, understanding customers and making decisions. I’ll share the exciting moments, the lessons and the challenges along the way.

I don’t expect to know everything from day one. I want to keep learning, keep improving and build something I’m proud of.

Frustrated by generic hair products that failed to deliver hydration and hold for coily hair, our young founder set out to build something better.

At just seventeen, she spent months collaborating with curl specialists and her peers to create formulas that celebrate natural texture with absolute pride.
